Can I Go to a Sauna or Jjimjilbang After Treatment?

It is usually best to avoid saunas and jjimjilbang for a while after skin treatments, because heat can increase swelling, redness and pigment. Typical guidance at Re:berry Hongdae is about 1–3 days after gentle lasers and Botox, around one week after filler and skin boosters, and two weeks or more after thread lifts. Your doctor gives timing for your plan.

Re:berry Clinic Hongdae

Why is heat a problem after treatment?

A jjimjilbang, the Korean bathhouse with hot rooms and saunas, is a popular part of a visit to Seoul. After treatment, however, high heat increases blood flow to the skin. That can make swelling and redness worse, increase bruising after injections and, for pigment treatments, raise the risk of darkening. Sweating and shared water also add infection risk where the skin barrier is temporarily open.

How long should I wait?

HydraFacial and LDM

Waiting at least the rest of the day is usually sensible, as skin is freshly exfoliated.

Laser toning, pico toning and Genesis

Many doctors suggest avoiding saunas for about 1–3 days, longer for melasma patients because heat can trigger pigment. See laser aftercare.

Botox

Avoid heat, lying down for long periods and facial pressure for at least 24 hours, often up to 48 hours.

Filler and skin boosters

Around one week is commonly advised so swelling settles and injection points heal. Read aftercare after skin boosters.

Ultherapy Prime, Thermage FLX and ONDA

These treatments already heat the tissue. A few days to one week without saunas is typical.

Thread lifts and resurfacing

Two weeks or more is common, until entry points or treated skin have fully healed.

What about hot showers, spas and hot springs?

Warm showers are generally fine, but keep the water off your face from becoming very hot for the first day. Hot tubs, steam rooms, hot yoga and heated swimming pools follow the same caution as saunas.

Related questions

Can I visit a jjimjilbang the night before treatment?

Usually yes, but avoid sunburn and very long heat exposure, and tell the doctor if your skin is irritated or flushed. For laser treatments, irritated or overheated skin may mean settings need adjusting. Arriving with calm, well-hydrated skin is ideal, so drink water and skip heavy scrubbing the day before.

Is a cold plunge pool safe after treatment?

Cold water is less of a concern than heat, but public pools carry an infection risk where injection points or treated skin have not healed. Many doctors advise avoiding shared pools for the same period as saunas after injections, threads or resurfacing lasers.

What happens if I go to a sauna too soon?

Most people simply notice more redness or swelling, which settles. In some cases heat may increase bruising, trigger pigment after lasers, or raise infection risk. If you notice worsening swelling, pain or darkening, contact the clinic for advice and send photos if you can.
