When Can I Wear Makeup After Laser Treatment?

After gentle lasers such as laser toning or Genesis, many people can wear light makeup the next day, or after a few hours if the skin is calm. After pico or spot treatments with scabs, or stronger resurfacing, waiting several days until the skin has healed is usually advised. At Re:berry Hongdae, the doctor gives specific timing for your laser.

Why wait before wearing makeup?

Lasers create controlled heat or tiny areas of injury in the skin. In the first hours, the skin barrier may be more sensitive and prone to irritation or infection. Makeup, brushes and sponges can introduce bacteria, and rubbing can disturb healing spots. Waiting a short time helps the skin settle and lowers the risk of complications such as breakouts or pigment changes.

Typical timing by laser type

Low-energy lasers

After laser toning or Genesis laser, mild redness usually fades within a few hours. Many patients can apply light makeup the same evening or next morning.

Pico lasers

After pico toning, timing is similar to laser toning. After pico spot treatment, small darkened crusts may form. Avoid makeup directly on these spots until they shed naturally.

Resurfacing lasers

Stronger lasers that cause peeling or open micro-wounds usually require waiting several days until the surface has healed. Follow your doctor's instructions closely.

How to wear makeup safely after laser

  • Use clean brushes or fingers and avoid shared products
  • Choose simple, fragrance-free, non-comedogenic products
  • Mineral-based formulas are often gentler
  • Avoid heavy exfoliating cleansers when removing makeup
  • Apply sunscreen first, as advised

Removing makeup after laser

When you do start wearing makeup again, removal matters as much as application. Use a mild cleansing oil or balm and a gentle low-pH cleanser, rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry. Avoid scrubbing, cleansing brushes and peeling pads for at least several days after treatment. See when you can wash your face after laser.

What if I have an event?

If you need to look camera-ready, tell the doctor your event date. Gentle options like LDM or HydraFacial may be better close to an event. Read treatments for one week before an event.

Related questions

Can I wear sunscreen right after laser?

In many cases, yes. Sunscreen is often recommended soon after gentle lasers to protect healing skin. After stronger treatments, the clinic may advise a specific product or timing. Choose a gentle, broad-spectrum formula and apply without rubbing. Reapply when outdoors.

Can I wear concealer on laser-treated spots?

If the spot has formed a crust, avoid putting concealer directly on it until the crust falls off naturally, usually within about a week. Covering nearby untreated skin is generally fine. Picking at crusts can increase pigment risk. Let them shed naturally.

Is it safe to wear makeup on a flight after laser?

Light makeup is usually acceptable if your skin has settled, but cabin air is drying. Many people prefer a moisturizer and sunscreen only during the flight, applying makeup after landing. A hydrating mist or simple moisturizer can help with dryness, and sunscreen is still useful near a window seat.
