Sofwave Lifting in Hongdae

Sofwave is an FDA-cleared ultrasound lifting treatment that heats the mid-dermis at a depth of about 1.5 mm to stimulate new collagen. At Re:berry Hongdae it is used for fine lines, mild laxity and skin texture, typically in one 30 to 45 minute session with little or no downtime. Results vary by individual.

What is Sofwave?

Sofwave is a non-invasive skin-tightening device that uses a technology called SUPERB, short for Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam. Instead of focusing energy into tiny points deep under the skin, it sends seven parallel ultrasound beams that create a cylinder-shaped zone of heat in the mid-dermis, about 1.5 mm below the surface.

That depth matters because the mid-dermis is where much of the skin's collagen and elastin lives. Controlled heating at this level is thought to trigger a wound-healing response, so the skin gradually rebuilds collagen over the following weeks. Sofwave is FDA-cleared for improving facial lines and wrinkles and for lifting the eyebrow, submental (under-chin) and neck tissue.

How is Sofwave different from other lifting devices?

Re:berry offers several energy-based lifting options, and each works at a different depth. Choosing between them is a diagnosis question, not a menu question.

  • Sofwave: Works in the mid-dermis at about 1.5 mm. Often suited to fine lines, crepey texture and early laxity.
  • Ultherapy Prime: Focused ultrasound reaching deeper layers, including the SMAS, at up to about 4.5 mm. Often chosen for jowls and heavier sagging. See Ultherapy Prime.
  • Thermage FLX: Monopolar radiofrequency that heats a broader volume of tissue. Often chosen for overall skin tightness and texture. See Thermage FLX.

Sofwave also has an integrated cooling system that protects the skin surface during each pulse, which many patients find makes treatment more tolerable. For a side-by-side look, read Ultherapy Prime vs Sofwave.

Who is a good candidate for Sofwave?

Sofwave typically suits adults in their late 20s to 60s who want gradual, natural-looking firming without needles or recovery time. It is often a good fit for:

  • Fine lines around the eyes, forehead and mouth
  • Mild to moderate laxity along the jawline and under the chin
  • A slightly heavy brow or hooded upper eyelid area
  • Crepey or thin-feeling skin and enlarged-looking pores
  • People who want a lifting treatment that fits around a busy work or travel schedule

Because Sofwave works at a shallower depth, patients with significant sagging or heavy jowls may get more from a deeper device, a thread lift, or a combination plan. Re:berry's approach is to examine skin thickness, laxity and volume first, then recommend what is likely to give stable improvement.

Who should not have Sofwave?

Treatment is usually postponed or avoided during pregnancy, over open wounds or active skin infection, over metal implants or fillers in the treatment area (this is assessed case by case), and in people with certain implanted electronic devices. Tell the doctor about recent procedures, medications such as isotretinoin and any history of keloid scarring.

What happens during a Sofwave session?

  1. Consultation: A doctor assesses your skin and confirms whether Sofwave is the right tool, or whether another option fits better.
  2. Preparation: Makeup is removed, photos may be taken for your record, and a numbing cream may be applied for 20 to 40 minutes depending on the area.
  3. Treatment: A gel is applied and the handpiece is moved in overlapping passes. You may feel brief heat and a prickling sensation with each pulse, balanced by the built-in cooling.
  4. Finish: The gel is cleaned off, a soothing product and sunscreen are applied, and you can usually leave straight away.

A full-face session typically takes 30 to 45 minutes of treatment time. Add time for consultation and numbing when planning your day.

Is there downtime after Sofwave?

Most patients return to normal activities the same day. Common, temporary effects include redness for a few hours, mild swelling for a day or two, and tenderness to the touch. Rarely, faint grid-like marks or small areas of sensitivity appear and settle on their own. Report any blistering, persistent numbness or worsening pain to the clinic.

For the first few days, many doctors advise avoiding saunas, very hot showers, intense workouts and alcohol, and using a high-SPF sunscreen. Our guide to aftercare after energy-based lifting covers the same principles.

When will I see results, and how long do they last?

Some patients notice a subtle freshness within the first week, but collagen remodeling is gradual. Visible firming and smoothing typically develop over 1 to 3 months and may continue to improve for a little longer. Many patients consider a maintenance session about once a year, though this varies with age, skin quality and lifestyle. Results vary by individual, and no device stops natural aging.

Can Sofwave be combined with other treatments?

Yes. Re:berry designs combinations rather than relying on a single procedure. Common pairings, depending on your diagnosis, include:

  • A deeper lifting device for the lower face plus Sofwave for fine lines and texture
  • Skin boosters such as Rejuran Healer to support hydration and skin quality
  • Botox for expression lines that heat-based devices cannot relax

Timing and order matter, so your doctor will advise whether treatments can be done on the same day or should be spaced apart.

Frequently asked questions

Does Sofwave hurt?

Most patients describe short bursts of heat and prickling with each pulse. The built-in cooling and optional numbing cream help, and sensitivity varies by area, with the jawline and forehead often feeling stronger. Tell the practitioner if it feels too intense, because energy settings and pacing can be adjusted during the session.

Is Sofwave suitable for Asian skin?

Sofwave targets the dermis with surface cooling rather than relying on pigment, so it is generally used across a wide range of skin tones. Suitability still depends on your skin thickness, sensitivity and history, which the doctor checks at consultation before recommending settings or an alternative.

How many Sofwave sessions will I need?

Many patients have a single session and review the result after about three months. Some doctors suggest a second session for deeper lines or more laxity, and maintenance is often considered around once a year. Your plan depends on your starting point and goals.

Can I wear makeup after Sofwave?

Light makeup is often fine the same day or the next morning once any redness has settled, provided the skin is not irritated. Use gentle products, avoid heavy exfoliation for a few days and always follow the specific aftercare instructions you receive at the clinic.
