Will jaw Botox work for my square jaw?

A square jaw has three possible sources: a large masseter muscle, fullness from fat or swelling, or a broad jawbone. Jaw Botox only addresses the first. A simple test is to clench your teeth and feel the angle of the jaw. If a firm bulge pushes outward, muscle is likely part of the width.

It is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding and may not suit people with neuromuscular disorders or infection at the site. A primarily bony jaw will not change much with injections.

Why is diagnosis so important?

Jaw Botox for visitors and short stays

Because slimming appears over several weeks, you will not see the full effect during a short trip. That is fine for many visitors, who simply notice the change once home. Plan your next session for about four to six months later, either on a return visit or with a qualified local provider, and keep a record of the product and dose used. You can usually fly the same day or the day after jaw Botox, but avoid pressing on the jaw with a tight neck pillow.

How many units are used for jaw Botox?

Dosing depends on the size and strength of each masseter, the product and your goals. Larger muscles typically need more, and the two sides are often dosed differently. Your doctor will set the amount after examining you and record it in your treatment plan so you know exactly what was used.

Can jaw Botox make my face sag?

For most people it does not. In some faces, especially those with thin skin and little fat, a large reduction in muscle bulk may make the lower cheek look slightly hollow or less supported. Conservative dosing based on your anatomy lowers this risk, and it is something to discuss during consultation.

Is the result the same as jaw surgery?

No. Jaw Botox reduces muscle bulk temporarily and cannot change bone. Surgery reshapes the jawbone and is a far more invasive procedure with lasting structural change. For muscle-driven width, many patients find Botox gives a satisfying, natural change without surgery, but expectations should match the cause of the width.
