Jaw Botox for masseter reduction is commonly repeated every 3 to 6 months at first. As the masseter muscle gradually shrinks with regular treatment, many people can extend the interval to every 6 to 12 months. At Re:berry Hongdae, a doctor checks muscle size and strength at each visit to decide timing and dose.

Why does the interval change over time?
Jaw Botox relaxes the masseter, the chewing muscle at the angle of the jaw. When a muscle is used less, it gradually becomes smaller, a process called atrophy. After the first injection, slimming usually becomes visible at around four to eight weeks. As the toxin wears off, the muscle slowly regains strength. Repeating treatment before it fully recovers helps maintain and build on the slimming effect.
After two or three sessions, many people find the muscle stays smaller for longer, so intervals can often be extended. Results vary by individual, and some people with strong clenching habits may need treatment more regularly.
A typical schedule
- First session: Assessment and injection.
- Second session: Commonly around 3 to 4 months later.
- Third session: Often 4 to 6 months after the second.
- Maintenance: Many people move to every 6 to 12 months.
Treating more often than about every three months is generally avoided, as frequent dosing may increase the chance of developing resistance to the toxin.
Signs it may be time for another session
- The jawline looks wider again in photos.
- Clenching, jaw tightness or teeth grinding return.
- The muscle feels firmer when you clench and touch the jaw angle.
See jaw Botox and square jaw for more on how treatment works and when other options, such as filler for chin balance, may help.
Does the dose change over time?
Often, yes. As the masseter becomes smaller and weaker, some people need a lower dose to maintain the same effect, while others with strong clenching habits keep a similar dose. The doctor feels the muscle while you clench and may compare it with photos from earlier visits before deciding.
Planning around travel
If you visit Seoul a few times a year, you can align sessions with your trips as long as they fall at least about three months apart. Bring a record of past doses and dates so the doctor can plan safely. Branch hours are on our Location & Hours page.

Related questions
What happens if I stop jaw Botox?
If you stop, the masseter gradually regains strength and size over several months, and the jawline usually returns toward its previous shape. There is no lasting harm from stopping. Some people find the muscle stays slightly smaller for a while, especially after many sessions, but this varies.
Can jaw Botox stop working over time?
A small number of people develop reduced response, which may be related to antibodies against the toxin. Avoiding very frequent injections and unnecessarily high doses may lower this risk. If you notice the effect fading faster than before, mention it to the doctor so the plan can be reviewed.
Can I chew normally after jaw Botox?
Most people chew normally. Some notice mild chewing fatigue with tough foods like steak or chewy snacks for a few weeks as the muscle relaxes. This usually settles. Tell the doctor if you have concerns about chewing strength or jaw problems before treatment.
