Q&A
What is LDM Treatment?

LDM (Local Dynamic Micro-massage), often called water drop lifting in Korea, is a non-invasive ultrasound treatment that rapidly alternates frequencies to create a micro-massage effect in the skin. It is used for hydration, calming sensitive or red skin, and supporting recovery after lasers. Sessions at Re:berry Hongdae typically take 15–20 minutes with no downtime.

How does LDM work?

LDM devices deliver ultrasound at changing frequencies, switching rapidly between them. This creates fine pressure changes within the skin, sometimes described as a cellular-level massage. It is not a heat-based lifting treatment. Unlike micro-focused ultrasound such as Ultherapy, LDM does not create deep thermal points, which is why it is generally gentle and comfortable.

LDM is usually combined with a hydrating or calming ampoule applied to the skin during treatment. The nickname "water drop lifting" (물방울 리프팅) refers to its hydrating effect rather than a surgical-style lift.

Who is LDM suited to?

  • Dry or dehydrated skin that feels tight
  • Sensitive skin that reacts to heat-based treatments
  • Redness-prone or rosacea-prone skin, as part of a wider plan
  • Skin recovering after laser toning, pico or other treatments
  • People wanting a no-downtime treatment before an event

What does a session feel like?

Most people feel a cool, smooth gliding sensation and no pain, so numbing is not needed. Afterward, skin often looks fresher and feels more comfortable. Makeup can usually be applied right away. Visible change in redness or texture usually needs a series of sessions.

What does LDM pair with?

LDM is commonly used alongside lasers, boosters and HydraFacial. For redness, see LDM for facial redness and rosacea; for the treatment itself, see LDM Water Drop Lifting. Results vary by individual.

Is LDM safe and who should avoid it?

LDM is generally considered low risk because it is non-invasive and does not rely on heat. Brief pinkness can occur. A doctor may postpone it if you have an active skin infection or open wounds in the area, a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device, a very recent filler or thread procedure in the area, or are pregnant. If you have a skin condition such as active rosacea flares or eczema, mention it so the doctor can decide whether LDM, medical treatment or both make sense first.

Related questions

Does LDM lift sagging skin?

LDM is not a structural lifting treatment, despite the 'water drop lifting' name. It focuses on hydration, calming and skin quality. For sagging jowls or jawline, devices such as Ultherapy Prime, Thermage FLX or Sofwave are usually more relevant. LDM can be combined with these devices as a calming step.

How many LDM sessions do I need?

Many people feel a soothing effect after one session, but for redness or hydration goals a series of four to ten sessions at weekly or two-week intervals is common. The doctor will suggest a plan based on your skin. Maintenance sessions may be added during seasons when your skin reacts more.

Can LDM be done after a laser?

Yes, LDM is often used as a calming step after lasers, sometimes on the same day. Whether this suits you depends on the laser and how your skin responds, which the doctor decides at consultation. Very sensitive skin may be better treated on a separate day, depending on the doctor's assessment.
