Why travel from Itaewon to Hongdae?
Itaewon is one of Seoul's most international neighborhoods, with many expats, embassies and foreign visitors staying in its hotels and guesthouses. Hongdae offers a different atmosphere, with youthful energy, cafes and independent shops. Many Itaewon residents and visitors come to Hongdae for treatments, shopping and dining, and Line 6 makes the trip straightforward.
Route options from Itaewon
Line 6 direct
Board Line 6 at Itaewon Station heading toward Eungam. The train passes Noksapyeong, Samgakji, Hyochang Park, Gongdeok, Daeheung and Gwangheungchang before reaching Sangsu and then Hapjeong. No transfer is needed. Travel time is typically around 20 to 25 minutes.
Sangsu is closer to the Han River side of Hongdae, while Hapjeong is a transfer station for Lines 2 and 6. Which is better depends on where the branch is located; see Location & Hours for directions.
Line 6 to Line 2
If you need to reach Hongik University Station itself, ride Line 6 to Hapjeong and transfer to Line 2 for one stop. Read our Hapjeong Station exit guide for help navigating.
Taxi
A taxi typically takes 25 to 40 minutes depending on traffic across the city. Kakao T is widely used in Seoul. Taxis may be more comfortable on your way back if you have had a treatment that causes mild swelling.
Planning a treatment day
Coming from Itaewon, many people combine an appointment with an afternoon in Hongdae or Yeonnam-dong. A few planning tips:
- Allow time for a consultation on your first visit; it is part of Re:berry's diagnosis-first approach
- Low-downtime treatments such as HydraFacial or laser toning leave you free to explore afterward
- For injectables, avoid alcohol and late nights in Itaewon or Hongdae immediately afterward
- Bring sunscreen if you plan to walk around after a laser
See what to bring to your appointment for a short checklist.
What to expect when you arrive in Hongdae
Coming from Itaewon, you may notice that Hongdae feels younger and busier on weekends, with students from Hongik University, street performers and long lines at popular cafes. Weekday mornings and early afternoons are usually calmer, which can make a first consultation more relaxed. If you exit at Sangsu, the streets toward the Han River are quieter and dotted with small bars and studios. If you exit at Hapjeong, you are close to larger shopping complexes and the riverside area around Mangwon. Whichever station you use, saving the clinic address in Naver Map or Kakao Map before you leave Itaewon helps avoid confusion, since street addresses in Seoul can be hard to read from signs alone.
Getting back after treatment
After most low-downtime treatments, the subway ride back to Itaewon is no different from your journey in. If you had injectables or a lifting treatment, mild swelling or tenderness may make a taxi more comfortable, especially in the evening rush when Line 6 can get crowded around Gongdeok. Avoid leaning your face against windows or headrests after fresh injections.
For expats living in Itaewon
If you live in Itaewon or nearby areas such as Hannam-dong, a regular treatment plan in Hongdae is realistic with Line 6. Many longer-term residents prefer clinics where consultation is available in English or other languages; Re:berry offers multilingual consultation support across its network, but please confirm languages when booking. Our page for expats and foreign residents has more on this.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to transfer to get from Itaewon to Hongdae?
Not necessarily. Line 6 runs directly from Itaewon to Sangsu and Hapjeong, which are on the edge of Hongdae. You only need to transfer to Line 2 at Hapjeong if you want to reach Hongik University Station itself, which is one stop away.
Is a taxi or the subway faster from Itaewon?
The subway is usually more predictable, typically taking around 20 to 25 minutes. A taxi can be similar outside rush hour but may take 40 minutes or more in heavy traffic. Many people take the subway there and a taxi back if they feel tired after treatment.
Can I use a T-money card on Line 6?
Yes. T-money and most Korean transit cards work on all Seoul subway lines, including Line 6, AREX and buses. Many foreign credit cards with contactless payment are also increasingly accepted, but a T-money card is still the simplest option for visitors.
