How do I get from Gangnam to Hongdae by subway?

Line 2, the green circle line, connects Gangnam Station and Hongik University Station directly. Both directions around the loop will get you there, but the route via Sindorim and Hapjeong on the western side is the common choice. Check the destination shown on the platform screen and your map app before boarding.

  1. Enter Gangnam Station (Line 2) and follow signs toward Sindorim-bound trains.
  2. Ride roughly 15–20 stops, which typically takes about 40–50 minutes.
  3. Exit at Hongik University Station.
  4. Use a map app with the branch address from our Location & Hours page to choose the right exit.

The ride passes busy hubs such as Sadang, Sillim, Sindorim and Hapjeong. Hapjeong is the stop just before Hongik University Station when traveling in this direction, so it is a useful cue to get ready to exit.

Line 2 can be very crowded during weekday rush hours, roughly 7:30–9:30 a.m. and 6–8 p.m. Booking a mid-morning or early-afternoon appointment makes the trip more comfortable.

Can I take a taxi or bus instead?

A taxi from Gangnam to Hongdae may take around 30 minutes in light traffic but can exceed an hour at peak times, especially crossing the Han River bridges. Kakao T is the most common app for booking. Express and city buses also run between the two areas, though routes and times vary, so Naver Map or Kakao Map are useful for live options.

Should I visit Re:berry Hongdae or Re:berry Gangnam?

Re:berry operates several branches, including Gangnam in Seocho-gu, with the same consultation and treatment standards across the network. The best choice usually comes down to logistics:

  • Choose Hongdae if you are staying in Mapo-gu, arriving on AREX from the airport, or want to combine your visit with Hongdae, Yeonnam-dong or Mangwon
  • Choose Gangnam if you are staying or working south of the river and want to avoid the cross-city trip
  • Use both if your schedule changes; see starting at one branch and following up at another

What about traveling from other parts of southern Seoul?

If you are staying near Sinnonhyeon, Sinsa or Apgujeong rather than Gangnam Station itself, routes change. Common options include:

  • From Gangnam or Yeoksam: Line 2 direct is usually simplest
  • From Jamsil or Samseong: Line 2 continues west through Gangnam toward Hongik University Station
  • From Apgujeong or Sinsa: Line 3 with a transfer, or a taxi across the river
  • From Yeouido: see our Yeouido to Hongdae guide

Travel times change with time of day, so check a live map app before you leave.

Planning the trip around your treatment

  • Allow extra time for station exits and walking; arrive 10–15 minutes early for paperwork
  • If numbing cream is part of your treatment, factor in the additional 20–40 minutes
  • After lasers or injections, carry a hat, mask or sunscreen for the ride home
  • Avoid booking right before rush hour if you dislike crowded trains after treatment

If you are coming from Gangnam, it can be worth staying for the afternoon. The Hongdae walking streets, Yeonnam-dong cafes and the Gyeongui Line Forest Park are all within the area. After treatments with mild redness, choose indoor cafes or shaded park paths rather than long sunny walks.
